Cast your minds back to 1988. Leg warmers were cool for the first time, as was Kylie, my pink Walkman and eating arctic roll while watching Count Duckula after school. I was a lass of 6, with a very simple Christmas List. All I wanted was an A La Carte Kitchen and a La La Orange doll. Nothing else. No other toy was worth consdieration. The criteria were strict - the kitchen needed those little boxes of pretend food and the doll had to be La La Orange with her jaunty beret. Father Christmas (aka Mum) bagged the kitchen in August, but trawled the streets of Northamptonshire (Oxfordshire and Bucks too) in search of the elusive doll. Calls were made. Relatives around the country were alerted. But the little doll in her elusive hooped coat evaded all. Anyway, fast forward to 2008 where I am 20 years older and have just been introduced to Truffle Shuffle by my mum, who in a moment of whimsy (where are my babies? have they all grown up?) googled La La Orange in hopes of finding a doll that had been trapped in the back of a stock room for 20 years and found this shirt. Which will be wrapped beneath the Christmas tree this year, hopefully making La La worth the 20 year wait! And also making my daughter question what that mysterious toy on my t shirt is...
