Shop the 1985 Argos Catalogue!

Over the last 38 years, millions of children have had the joyful experience of flicking through the Argos catalogue and picking out their Christmas lists.

The excitement of carefully copying the name of the latest toy/game along with it's trusty catalogue number in preparation for Santa to (hopefully!) make all your Christmas dreams come true was the best thing ever.

If that makes you all warm and tingly, then this awesome imagery we stumbled upon of past Argos catalogues will surely evoke ultra nostalgic memories of Christmas Past.

Check out this gem of a page which stars Rainbow Brite, Roland Rat and My Little Pony among other old school faves!

And just look at the prices! A whole Castle Grayskull for just £23.95 - He-Man would definitely have to dip into his savings to afford one of those today!

Weekend Movie Sofa Challenge 2 – The Sequel

O.k. so two weeks ago I set myself a challenge to watch as many movies as possible over the course of a weekend.

I’m almost ashamed to say I failed that challenge. I put it down to a short attention span and consuming too much alcohol on Satuday night which meant I got out of bed to find I'd missed most of the day. EPIC FAIL!

Luckily though, all is not lost! Whilst browsing the good old TV guide this week, I noticed that Sky movies sci/fi has a Superman marathon on (not easy at all to say.)

Yes all my fellow wannabe Superheroes, all four Superman movies starring the legendary Christopher Reeves along with Superman Returns are being shown on Sunday from 12:40 pm onwards.

Unfortunately for me however, I don't have Sky nor do I know any one that does, bad times! Never fear though, if you’re in the same boat and need a retro movie smack upside the head this weekend, here’s an alternative list of old school delights available to you this weekend on good old regular television.

What a wünderful advert...

So who's seen the new Müller ad? It's RETROTASTIC!

The company responsible for this advert is Studio TRI. These guys are also responsible for other great ads such as John Lewis' 'Never Knowingly Undersold' TV Advert, Yeo Valley's The Churned 'Forever' X Factor Advert and my current favourite ad the Walls Talking Dog - "Garage" Advert. All of them completely random, but all of them create great talking points.

Anyway, back to the new Müller ad.....

An advert that starts out with K.I.T.T from Knight Rider is 100% bound to capture my attention. But I never expected the ad to contain quite so many cult cartoon characters. Yogi bear is the second surprise in the ad (but sadly lacking a Boo-boo bear), but just as you're trying to figure the link between Knight Rider and Yogi Bear a whole host of boring business men are being turned into Mr Men and Little Miss characters??!?!? The screen is literally bursting with retro cartoon characters!! I counted 19 Mr Men and Little Miss characters, see if you can find more. The ad starts to take a slightly darker turn and needs saving... Who could possibly save the day? Muttley from Wacky Races of course!

To say this ad left me a little shocked and surprised would be an understatement and I don't really care about the what's, where's and why's of this advert and its links to yoghurt but all I know is I like it.

So may I thank Müller and Studio TRI for creating adverts I genuinely enjoy.

Here's the ad in question, enjoy....

Spooky Tees!

To get into the true spirit of Halloween, I have picked out my favourite spooky Halloween TShirts. For those who are not brave enough for full-on fancy dress, have no party to go to or are  just too damn cool, these beauties which encompass the themes of horror, ghosts and ghouls and vampires are sure to get your juices flowing!

No Tricks this Halloween....just Treats with our 80's Fancy Dress!

With Halloween fast approaching – we have an office full of very excited TruffleShufflers!

We do love any excuse to get glammed up in Fancy Dress - and with head turning results like this, who could blame us?

Perhaps this year Lee could opt for something a little more...'manly'? (We did have plenty of options available, however this seemed like the best idea at the time!)

Apart from the difficult task of deciding what party you are going to – the most important thing is choosing a costume and as always - TruffleShuffle have it sorted. Whether it be as simple as adding one of our retro wigs to an 80’s-tastic outfit or going all out and dressing up as your favourite Super Hero or 80’s icon, we have lots retro halloween costumes to choose from.

I have decided to ditch the home made costume (involving black bin bags and a whole lot of hard work!) and opt for something a bit more exciting:

Guest Post – meet the lovely Claire from 80scartoons!

Hiya!

I'm Claire and run 80sCartoons.co.uk which began back in 1998....has it really been that long? I was at art college in Dundee trying to teach myself web design, and had created a little homepage (most likely with a hideous tiled background, blinking text and animated gifs galore!) which mentioned a few of my favourite childhood cartoons

Any visitors that found my site (probably through Alta Vista or Lycos! Life before Google eh!) and signed my guestbook always commented on the cartoons and suggested more of their favourites that I should add...and so it grew from there!

Now it getting over 1,000 nostalgia-hungry visitors every day, and currently has over 8,000 Facebook followers! The demand for all things retro increases every year, especially as sites like TruffleShuffle have so many wonderful 80s goodies on offerto help to keep those memories alive!

I’ve been very lucky while running 80sCartoons, as I’ve managed to speak directly to many 80s cartoons “celebs”.  If someone told me when I was 8 years old, that one day I’d be talking directly  with the maker of Button Moon, the animator of the Raggy Dolls, the creator of Jimbo and the Jet-Set the list goes on... I would have fallen off my rollerboots!

I’ve interviewed Terry Brain, who co-created Trap Door, which was a special treat for me as I was a huge fan back in the day.  He also animated Stoppit and Tidyup, and went on to work for Aardman animation – that man is a legend! Amonst other things, he told me that Berk, Boni, Drutt & the big sponge were his favourite character creations and that his favourite Trap Door episode was 'Bye Bye Berk'!
