Shiver me timbers! Raft Race Results Are In!
So as you may know if you read our blog post last week, this Sunday, the TruffleShuffle team took part in the Portishead Raft Race!
The aim was to raise as much money as possible for the RNLI Portishead Lifeboat and have a bit of fun at the same time.
Well you'll be glad to hear we succeeded on both counts and we were thrilled to come away with two prizes, one for 'Best Designed Raft' and the second (and most important in our opinion) for most money raised by a team.
We raised a whopping £3,241 for the Portishead Lifeboat and we'd like to say a huge thank to you to everyone who sponsored us. We really can't tell you how much we and the RNLI appreciate every penny.
Now for the bad news, despite the best efforts of our valiant crew, we came second to last in the actual raft race! Although our raft looked pretty damn awesome (even if we do say so ourselves,) it turned out our home made paddles were pretty useless and the whole raft was pretty wobbly once in the water; cue plenty of capsizes and lots of wet sailors. Shiver me timbers - quite literally!
Doing our bit for charity.....
The TruffleShuffle team are taking part in our local Raft Race this weekend to help raise much needed funds for the RNLI Portishead Lifeboat .
Our MD's son was the youngest person to have ever been rescued by the fantastic team of volunteers at just 6 weeks old so it's a cause which is very close to our hearts. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, their lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved at least 140,000 lives and volunteers make up 95% of the charity, including 4,600 volunteer lifeboat crew members and 3,000 volunteer shore crew. The RNLI needs to raise a whopping £335,000 every day to run the 235 lifeboat stations and 163 lifeguarded beaches so we're hoping to raise as much as possible to support this fantastic charity.
We're going for a Goonies theme for our raft and are hoping to come up with something One Eyed Willie would be proud of (pics to follow soon!)
We'll be battling our way across the lake and around the island to the finishing line and with prizes awarded for the winning rafts as well as the âBest Dressed Raftâ, âBest Designed Raftâ and âMost Sponsorship Raisedâ, we've gotta win something right? If not - our MD will be walking the plank!
If you'd like to show your support for this fantastic charity and help us on our way to raising our target of £2,500, please visit our Just Giving page here. Holidays Are Coming - Update! And Happy Christmas Jumper Day.
Hey guys,
Lots of you supported our designer James' recent blog post regarding our Holidays Are Coming Jumper so we just wanted to give you all an update!
For those of you who missed it, we found a very similar jumper to the one we designed available for sale at www.Boohoo.com and so James blogged about it. We were totally overwhelmed by all the support from you guys - our lovely customers and readers so a huge, huge thanks to everyone who got in touch.
BooHoo got in touch the same day the blog was posted and asked us to remove our original blog post while they investigated which we duly did (in case you wondered why it had disappeared.) BooHoo said they would remove the item from sale while they checked what had happened at their end.
We've now resolved things with Boohoo and as a gesture of goodwill, Boohoo has agreed to pay us a royalty which we will be donating to Save The Childrens Christmas Jumper Day.
They have also agreed to send the remaining stock to a charity of our choice so we will be donating these to the amazing One25 - a Bristol-based charity, specialising in enabling women to break free from street sex-work, addiction and other life-controlling issues and build new, independent lives.

Can you believe it's that time again?!
Yep this weekend sees another whopping 40,000 brave runners line up and set of on the epic 26.2 miles course around the heart of London as they raise huuuuge amounts of money for some simply amazing causes.
The race begins in Greenwich, and will see the dedicated runners get a first-class tour of London's biggest and best-loved tourist attractions including the Cutty Sark ship, Tower Bridge, Cleopatra's Needle, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. The runners then take their last few steps down The iconic Mall before completing the race in front of Buckingham Palace. Cool huh!
Raising money for countless amount of amazing causes, this spectacular event (that gets us out of breath just thinking about it) is a real highlight of the calendar and partly for one reason....for us a least.... the costumes!
Yep you name it and we're sure someone has dressed up as it and run the full length of the course! Deep sea divers, Cavemen, donkeys, superheroes...the lot! And all in the name of raising money to help those in need.
One of the best parts of getting to watch such an amazing event for us is picking out some of these fab costumes and ultimately thinking....'how can you possible run 26 miles in that?!'
To highlight some of our own costume heroes, we've picked out some of our personal favourte runners from the past few years. Take a peep and see if you can spot any like these this year....
