The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown – 460

Rolling into another retro movie filled weekend like a pool ball heading towards the pack for a big break, we're lining up plenty of classic movies for you to sink and score big!

SATURDAY 12th February

City Slickers (1991) Film4 4:35pm-6:50pm

Three middle-aged men take a break from the rat race and their mid-life crises to join a two-week cattle drive from New Mexico to Colorado. Together with a bunch of fellow urbanites, they find the going much tougher than expected, and it is down to a real-life cowboy to whip them into shape. Comedy adventure, starring Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern, Bruno Kirby and Jack Palance, who won an Oscar for his performance as grizzled trail boss Curly.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) E4 6:40pm-9:00pm

The intrepid archaeologist, with his young sidekick and a nightclub singer in tow, is stranded in India, where he takes on a mission to recover magical sacred stones from the hands of an evil cult engaged in human sacrifice and child slavery. Steven Spielberg's action-adventure, starring Harrison Ford, Kate Capshaw, Ke Huy Quan and Amrish Puri.

The bad-tempered ogre finds himself in the unwelcome position of being next in line for the throne. Two rivals in the bookshop business fall in love over the internet, unaware they know and dislike each other in the real world. A widowed scientist's space research draws him into a romance with a shapely alien who has come to Earth on a vitally important mission. However, the boffin's daughter suspects there is something not quite right with their relationship. Sci-fi comedy, starring Dan Aykroyd, Kim Basinger and Jon Lovitz and featuring early appearances by Alyson Hannigan, Juliette Lewis and Seth Green.

A reclusive genius creates a boy but dies before completing him, leaving his brainchild with scissor-like blades in place of hands. A kindly woman from a nearby suburb takes pity on the lonely figure and welcomes him into her home. He quickly becomes a hit in the neighbourhood - but then his new friends start to turn against him. Tim Burton's fantasy, starring Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest and Vincent Price.

The Karate Kid (1984) GREAT! movies 2:00pm-4:25pm

A teenager at a new school befriends a pretty girl, but her ex-boyfriend is jealous and attacks him. During one particularly bad fight, a wise old caretaker intervenes and defeats the youngster's assailants using his martial art skills. He goes on to mentor the boy and teaches him karate so he can face his enemies in a tournament. Drama, with Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita and Elisabeth Shue.
