Retro Gaming the Smart[phone] Way.....

In our office it's easy to spot the My Little Pony fan because she's wearing a 'Daddy I want a pony' hoodie or the office geek because he's wearing the latest Big Bang Theory t-shirt and our gamer t-shirts are being sported by our in-house Xbox addicts and Playstation junkies. But even with these very different fans occupying our office space every so often theres something that causes the office to act like crazed lunatics, the latest smartphone game.

With smartphones being all-the-rage in our office its meant that we could battle over Angry Birds, puzzle over Word Press and tactle Tap the Frog. Although these popular games cause commotions and comradery, there's some games we just keep coming back to for settling arguments. Here's the top 3 retro smartphone games to keep rivalry rife in the office.....

Snake - Due to the average age in Truffle Towers being 30 we don't really remember the original 70s release of this infamous game so this one takes us back to those 'First Mobile Phone' days of the Nokia 6110 and the argument with your mates about how long your worm is (ooh matron) and the best technique as not to bite your own tail. Everyone's an expert at this game.....

5 Megadrive Forgotten Greats

When 16 bit was the king of consoles and your teenage life was controlled by something called a D-pad. You were either a Super Nintendo kid or like me

You were all about the Sega Megadrive. Obviously Nintendo had Mario and Sega had Sonic the Hedgehog. These games are have firmly proven themselves in gaming history and that will never change, But what about those forgotten classics of the 90s gaming scene. The games you only saw while watching Games Master on T.V. or the ones you would swop with your friends at school in the playground. Well for all you 90’s gamers out there here five of my favourite played and always wanted Megadrive forgotten classics

1) Rocket Knight Adventure

What’s cooler than a possum wielding a sword and and jetpack.....NOTHING! Some say this was the best side scrolling Megadrive game of its time which maybe why I've heard rumours Konami may be remaking it. Maybe there’s still hope of fulfilling my childhood dream of finally owning this game.

2) Italia 90

Mega Games 1 brought the three games on one cartridge. Super Hang on and Columns were the first two games but it was all about World Cup Italia 90 for me. Much like sensible soccer it was one of those games where you could pin point the perfect scoring point

Rest in Piece! Monopoly Icons Need Your Help!

If you're anything like us, the real competition when playing Monopoly takes place even before the game has begun! Fighting for your favourite playing piece is the real challenge as whoever you're playing with, everyone will want the same one!

The board game titan that is Monopoly is shaking things up this year with their big Save Your Token Campaign which will see one of the iconic playing pieces never pass GO again!

That's right folks, the fate of the Scottie dog, race car, top hat and the five other tokens in this classic game are in the hands of us fans through a worldwide vote that will determine which token will be eliminated from the game forever.

Voting has already started and can you too can have your say via the Monopoly Facebook app where each mover will give a case as to why they should stay out of jail. Be quick though! Everything will close on the 5th of February.

Take a look how the score are looking at the moment....

Make This Christmas a Retro Christmas!

Are you looking to make your Christmas a little more retro? Of course you are! Below I have put together some ideas on how you can have an awesome retro Christmas.

Movies

Everyone loves a movie at Christmas, why not sit back and enjoy some classic retro movie films with your family and friends. Our recommendations are:

National Lampoons Xmas Vacation - It's Christmas time and the Griswolds are preparing for a family seasonal celebration, but things never run smoothly for Clark, his wife Ellen and their two kids. Clark's continual bad luck is worsened by his obnoxious family guests, but he manages to keep going knowing that his Christmas bonus is due soon.

Home AloneHome Alone - It is Christmas time and the McAllister family is preparing for a vacation in Paris, France. But the youngest in the family named Kevin got into a scuffle with his older brother Buzz and was sent to his room which is on the third floor of his house. Then, the next morning, while the rest of the family was in a rush to make it to the airport on time, they completely forgot about Kevin who now has the house all to himself. Being home alone was fun for Kevin, having a pizza all to himself, jumping on his parents' bed, and making a mess. Then, Kevin discovers about two burglars, Harry and Marv, about to rob his house on Christmas Eve. Kevin acts quickly by wiring his own house with makeshift booby traps to stop the burglars and to bring them to justice.

A Charlie Brown Christmas - When Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism that he sees amongst everyone during the Christmas season, Lucy suggests that he become director of the school Christmas paegent. Charlie Brown accepts, but it proves to be a frustrating struggle. When an attempt to restore the proper spirit with a forlorn little fir Christmas tree fails, he needs Linus' help to learn what the real meaning of Christmas is.

Miracle On 34th Street - At the Macy's Department Store Thanksgiving Day parade, the actor playing Santa is discovered to be drunk by a whiskered old man. Doris Walker, the no nonsense special events director, persuades the old man to take his place. The old man proves to be a sensation and is quickly recruited to be the store Santa at the main Macy's outlet. While he is successful, Ms. Walker learns that he calls himself Kris Kringle and he claims to be the actual Santa Claus. Despite reassurances by Kringle's doctor that he is harmless, Doris still has misgivings, especially when she has cynically trained herself, and especially her daughter, Susan, to reject all notions of belief and fantasy. And yet, people, especially Susan, begin to notice there is something special about Kris and his determination to advance the true spirit of Christmas amidst the rampant commercialism around him and succeeding in improbable ways...
