Happy Birthday Bowie!
Hi there you lovely lot,
So David Bowie turned 65 last weekend, and I have to say that he is hands down my favourite David. (Sorry Hoff) With a music career that has spanned 4 decades, I defy anybody to question his legend status. He is all kinds of awesome, not only is he one of the worldâs biggest musical talents â but he is an eccentric crusader for the weird and wonderful.
I mean, he guest starred in Spongebob Squarepants. Some iconic megastars may (wrongly) think they are above smartly dressed sponges and meowing snails â but not our David. He was a guest on the 2007 episode Atlantis SquarePantis, and gave the show itâs highest ever ratings. What a guy.
In 1986 he starred in Labyrinth as Jareth the Goblin King, and the fabulous gang at TruffleShuffle have got a brilliant collection of t shirts celebrating the many faces of David Bowie. So, to quote Jareth (with some creative license) âI ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and buy these T-shirtsâ¦â

Sunny’s Retro Christmas Gift Guide
In the words of Noddy Holder: âITâS CHRISTMASSSSSS!â
Yes, tis the season to be jollyâ¦so I keep telling myself. Now Iâm not saying Iâm Ebenezer Scrooge mark II but these past few years Iâve been more âbah humbugâ than âho ho hoâ. Despite my lack of enthusiasm for the holidays recently, I still uphold the jolly tradition of giving Christmas presents (as well as watching Christmas TV/films) - see Iâm no Scrooge!
Since us Wardrobe girls became friends back at Uni, weâve been giving presents every year and this year is no different. Buying lots of Christmas presents can be an extremely stressful task especially when youâre tackling the high street crowds (raging much?). Oh lets not forget the impact it can have on your bank balance- bad times.
Here at Wardrobe we like to set a budget for our gifts which makes it a lot easier. How awkward would it be if you bought someone a gift for a fiver and they spent say fifty quid on yours! We also love to do âSecret Santaâ which means everyone in the group gets at least one decent present each and your bank balance doesnât suffer much.
Every year, finding presents gets tougher and tougher but this year the guys over at TruffleShuffle may just have saved me from having a mini-breakdown. Their gift section has got bigger and definitely better. Also their new online gift finder is a godsend. Just to prove how immense the collection is Iâve put together a little retro gift guide to hopefully give you some ideas.
Sunny, You Goonie!
Heeyyy you guys!
Itâs been a little while since I submitted a guest post for TruffleShuffle, so I thought Iâd better make this one a really good one!
Well I donât know about you but there was clearly only one topic that I could talk about:
âThe Gooniesâ
Probably one of the best films EVER. You can quote me on that one too!
A few weeks ago, The Goonies was on one of the TV channels. Despite the fact that I have it on DVD and must have watched it at least a trillion times, I always get excited when it comes on. So much so I have to let all my friends and family know itâs on. You can't beat watching it live! :)
Guest Post – meet the lovely Claire from 80scartoons!
Hiya!
I'm Claire and run 80sCartoons.co.uk which began back in 1998....has it really been that long? I was at art college in Dundee trying to teach myself web design, and had created a little homepage (most likely with a hideous tiled background, blinking text and animated gifs galore!) which mentioned a few of my favourite childhood cartoons
Any visitors that found my site (probably through Alta Vista or Lycos! Life before Google eh!) and signed my guestbook always commented on the cartoons and suggested more of their favourites that I should add...and so it grew from there!
Now it getting over 1,000 nostalgia-hungry visitors every day, and currently has over 8,000 Facebook followers! The demand for all things retro increases every year, especially as sites like TruffleShuffle have so many wonderful 80s goodies on offerto help to keep those memories alive!
Iâve been very lucky while running 80sCartoons, as Iâve managed to speak directly to many 80s cartoons âcelebsâ. If someone told me when I was 8 years old, that one day Iâd be talking directly with the maker of Button Moon, the animator of the Raggy Dolls, the creator of Jimbo and the Jet-Set the list goes on... I would have fallen off my rollerboots!
Iâve interviewed Terry Brain, who co-created Trap Door, which was a special treat for me as I was a huge fan back in the day. He also animated Stoppit and Tidyup, and went on to work for Aardman animation â that man is a legend! Amonst other things, he told me that Berk, Boni, Drutt & the big sponge were his favourite character creations and that his favourite Trap Door episode was 'Bye Bye Berk'!
Fame & Fortune with TruffleShuffle
Blogging for Wardrobe Mag & TruffleShuffle, I find myself in front of the camera a lot awkwardly posing in the most beautiful of clothes. So when those lovely folks at the TruffleShuffle towers asked me to think of ideas for my next guest post, I had a slightly different proposalâ¦
Instead of being in front of the camera, I thought wouldnât it be refreshing for everyone to have a break from my lovely mug (ahem) and give someone else a go. Now before you pull that confused expression hear me out.
With it being summer (you know that brief period in our yearly calendar when this strange yellow thing called the Sun comes out and weâre all so happy and hot) I thought it would be cool to maybe do a mini photo-shoot. I also thought it would be perfect to show you male TruffleShufflersâ how some of the menâs tees look worn on.
As a keen photographer, I offered to âget my pap onâ and take the pictures. With TruffleShuffle providing the t shirts it was just the models left to gather. Unfortunately Kate Moss was busy back then with her pending nuptials but step forward two of the Wardrobe Mag girls: Steph and Bhavna. Now getting a bunch of guys to model wasnât as easy as I thought it would be but three superhero studs came to my rescue. Once again thank you Anthony, Alex and Kieran.
Now where does one do a super cool summer photo-shoot at? Well the park of course! Where else can we mix a bit of business and pleasure? Just a shame the kiddies had taken over the swings and slides, how inconsiderate.
The Rock Chick's Back In Black
Before I started to guest blog for TruffleShuffle I was already a regular customer (some would say TS tees contributed to my current financial situation of ânot goodâ) and owned more than a few t-shirts in my Wardrobe.
Amongst those tees were a few from the label âAmplifiedâ who have an amazing range of music t-shirts. As much as I love my fashion, I love my music more but if I can combine the two then why not! So when TruffleShuffle asked me to do my next post based on a âRock Chickâ theme, I didnât have to think twice. And of course there was only one label that I was going to choose fromâ¦
Even though I will be the first to admit that I have the most random/eclectic taste in music (anything goes- within reason) one genre has to be a firm fave: Rock & Roll. It was tough choosing an Amplified tee as there are so many amazing tees to pick from but I really wanted one from the lyrics range. Unfortunately the ladies âI wanna be adoredâ Stone Roses tee was sold out but I wasnât upset for too long as the AC/DC âBack in Blackâ T Shirt wasnât!
AC squiggly line DCâs âBack in Blackâ is one of my favourite rock anthems ever. From the intro you are hooked. Itâs got everything a rock song should have in my opinion; epic guitar riffs, shouty vocals and catchy lyrics. This song definitely brings out the inner rock chick in me complete with air guitar and head banging.
My personal everyday style has a lot of rock influence so I found it pretty natural to style the tee. Taking inspiration from music videos from the early 80âs & 90âs (Madonna and Slash from Guns N Roses etc) to the modern day fashionistas such as Fearne Cotton, Kate Moss and Alice Dellal.
The t-shirt is actually quite long so in the first outfit photo Iâve folded it under to make it look shorter. One item every rock chick needs in her wardrobe is the biker jacket, guaranteed to give any outfit an edge. To inject slight colour into my outfit I opted for grey jeans instead of black. If only I owned some ripped stonewash jeans⦠(though my parents would not be impressed!) As it was such a nice day I chose black espadrille wedges, adding a bit of glamour to my look. My bandana scarf which I used as a makeshift belt is an ode to Guns N Roses front man Axl Roseâ¦
