Guest Post! The Caped Crusader: Yep it’s Batman...
I was VERY tempted to name this blog post âna na na na na na na na na na na na na na na naaa Batman!â because as you have probably realised by now thatâs how mature I am. But thereâs something about superheroes such as Batman that bring out that childish side to you. We all know that the idea of a man getting superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider or a man going around dressed as a bat is quite ridiculous yet weâre still enticed and get stupidly excited about this fantasy world.
Perfect example of this is of course âThe Dark Knight Risesâ which is the third and final instalment of Christopher Nolanâs Batman trilogy.
Iâve never seen so many people- of all ages-get so excited by one film. It is definitely a buzz that only certain movies bring. After all, superheroes are amazing. Growing up I used to love watching superhero films such as Superman and Batman. Even TV series such as Wonder Woman and donât laugh...Captain Planet.
Batman is the one superhero that really takes me back to my childhood. Forget the films; I always preferred Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo in the TV series. I can remember watching the TV series during our summer holidays on Channel 4 around 1.30pm! At the time they were so gripping and totally believable. I never questioned the convenient gadgets (there are 100 flights of stairs and the lifts not working...oh wait we can use the Batjet which is conveniently placed in the Batmobile) or the fact that nobody could tell that it was Bruce Wayne as Batman. Who can forget the âBam! Crash! Wallops!â?
It was this cheesy side of Batman that I preferred growing up and despite watching most of the Batman films my allegiance was always to the 1960âs caped crusader. But then Christian Bale happened.
Man heâs beautiful. But forget his beautiful face for a second if you can...it was his dark and suave Batman that got me gripped. Christopher Nolanâs Batman was a far cry from the ones I was used to- and I liked it!
The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 9!
It seems like this summer itâs almost impossible to get away from watching some form of sporting event, like the agony of watching England play in the euroâs, Wimbledonâs upon us this weekend and in the not so distant future the Olympics start in case you missed that bloke you never met running down your street carrying a torch! So, like a fat kid avoiding P.E Iâve faked a note from our mother excusing us from any physical activity and we fully expect to get away with it too. If you would like to join us on the proverbial side lines we have a mean packed lunch full of gooey retro goodness and creamy nostalgia to get your movie loving fangs stuck into. Hope you enjoy!
Have a happy retro weekend :-)
SATURDAY 23rd JUNE
Creepy couple Morticia and Gomez find their unconventional life threatened by a man claiming to be a long-lost relative. When they welcome him with open arms, they fall prey to a plot that could cost them their ancestral home and the family fortune. Black comedy based on the 1960s TV series, starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Christina Ricci, Jimmy Workman and Carel Struycken.
Minimalist Superheroes
There's nothing I like more than Trawling the internet for random pictures and videos. And every so often you find fresh artistic talent that just catches you eye, in this case made even better by its retro inspired theme. These Minimal Superhero Posters by art student Calvin Lin perfectly demonstrate my point.
The minimalist designs are great, from Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman to Green Lantern and others, every poster is also 100% clear, without ever showing too much.
I don't know about you, but I'd love these hung around my house!
