Great Scott! Back for the Future???

Being a child of the 80s meant that I grew up being 'WOWed' by a whole host of amazing movies such as Goonies, E.T, Labyrinth and Ghostbusters. But there is one movie that I watched so much I managed to wear out the VHS tape, this movie was Back to the Future 2.

If you haven't ever seen Back to the Future 2, where have you been?

The story is about a character called Marty McFly who has only just got back from the past (Back to the Future), when he is picked up by Dr. Emmett Brown in his DeLorean time machine and sent through time to the future, 2015 to be precise. Marty's job in the future is to pose as his son to prevent him being thrown in prison. Unfortunately, things get worse when the future changes the present. Check out the original trailer below...

Being a car and gadget obsessed youngster there were a whole host of reasons to make me excited about this movie, the DeLorean time machine now being able to fly, Hover Boards, pretty much everything to do with 2015 (The future looks amazing) but there is one thing in this movie I remember wanting more than anything else. Marty McFly's Nike Sneakers! The light-up emblem and power laces blew me away. These are the best shoes never made....

Not any more..... 22 years later and Nike have (kind of) made my dreams come true with the 2011 Nike MAG....

Nike MAG Sneakers

Want to know more about these famous sneaks? Well, The glowing LED panel is there as is the electroluminescent NIKE logo on the strap. The foam support in the ankle and toe box have been increased for comfort which differs from the original in the “Back to the Future” movie. The MAG can be illuminated by pinching the corner of the high top. The feature itself makes it the first rechargeable footwear from Nike. Each shoe holds a five hour charge.

Who Ya Gonna Call?

This week we've just launched a brand new collection of Ghostbusters T-shirts from Fame and Fortune.  Of course this got everyone in the office buzzing, but I was most excited of all cause designing these Tees was my first ever project for TruffleShuffle!  Seeing the final results of my work is such a great feeling and it took me back to when I had just started working here as a designer.  For me there couldn’t have been a more perfect starting point as I am a huge fan of the classic film, I remember that I couldn’t wait to get started!

The first step towards building a new collection of tees is to really research your subject, so luckily for me it was the perfect opportunity to spend an evening in and watch the film again for the 100th time, any excuse will do!  I knew there were a number of bases I had to cover, everyone loves Stay Puft, Slimer is a definite and we really wanted to see the Ecto-1, but it was really useful (and fun) to see the film again as it refreshed my mind and reminded me of some really classic catchphrases and scenes.  It was the best way to get me back in the Ghostbusting state of mind!

As well as the ultra popular “Who ya gonna call?” and “I ain’t afraid of no ghost” I loved the phrases “Don’t cross the streams” and “When the light is green the trap is clean” and was determined to get them included on one of the tees!

I also included the Ghostbusters Montage design to show our four heroes fighting against some of the monsters from the film as well as a special appearance from the ghost best know from the films main logo!

Nevermind the last 20 years.....

This September marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Nirvana’s first major label album which kicked off the alt-rock explosion of the 90's,  Nevermind (anyone else suddenly feeling really old?)

To mark the occasion, a super deluxe edition is going to be released on September 19th. Available in versions ranging from a single CD to a five-disc box, it was assembled by Novoselic, Dave Grohl, Vig and Nirvana's management, as well as representatives of Cobain's estate. Along with a remastered version of Nevermind, the multidisc packages offer killer extras including B sides, alternate mixes and an entire live show.

I remember listening to this album for the first time with my mates in school. We were hiding in the gym at lunch time and Andy (the hardest rocking member of our clique) pulled out this cassette  (remember those  people)  which was to have a huge impact on my musical tastes. He’d taped Nevermind from his brother who probably taped it off some other kid like we all did back in the day and he  carefully set it inside the schools stereo system and cranked it up.....

The noise that came out was like nothing else I’d ever heard before and there was nothing much I could do other then jump around like a possessed monkey. I then borrowed that tape and copied it myself (please don't sue me Universal - I do now own a legal vinyl copy of Nevermind so surely that cancels it out?) and from then on, I can honestly say Nirvana pretty much dominated my midi system.

Nirvana were everything a teenager from the 90’s needed - they were chaotic, melodic, sarcastic, sympathetic, surrealistic and serendipitous. They literally moulded my youth!

If you’ve never heard Nevermind then do it, now and let us know how you got on! Or, if like me you can't forget your first experience of Nevermind we would sure like to hear about it. Only because we’re nosy like that......
