Our Top Reasons Why Save The Last Dance Is Such a Classic!

Not this might come as a slight supersize to many of you, buuuuut the amazing teen flick that is Save The Last Dance turns a cool 15 years old today! Yep released here in the UK back on March 30th 2001, this icon is still very much in our top books and we think there is still plenty to love about this legend.

Now, teen films are admittedly a total guilty pleasure and are usually enjoyed on lazy Sundays with ice cream and perhaps a friend or too. You can love it and generally won't give you a headache trying to understand it which is sometimes perfect! But! Save The Last Dance is so much more than that, instead taking on real life situations like dating, pregnancy and crime. Tick! Tick! Tick!

First up of course it's....those dance moves! Whoever you are, watching this film was a sure fire way to get the itch to throw some shapes right there and then, because....why not!

Taking on the big issues like racism like a champ. Sadly, too many times in teen movies involve perfect couples with perfect relationships. Save The Last Dance actually looked at the struggles more everyday couples, such as racism faced in inter-racial relationships.

The music! With total classics from Pink, Ice Cube, Montell Jordan, Snop Dogg and Chaka Demus & Pliers, there's plenty to love about this. While we wouldn't recommend just listing to this film, you could and still have a blast!

Make over extraordinaire! No, yes we know that most teen flicks include the vital make over moment turning the shy dull one into the coolest thing on the campus. Well....you guesses it! Sara is transformed from an awkward newbie into a sassy strong figure who is rocking clothes we could only dream about wearing at school.

It showed us that, "hey, you want something you bust your butt to get it!", and you just might. Nobody achieves a dream without trying , so do something about it.

It got real! By real we mean, still actually a film but hey it dealt with perhaps more real world issues. Rather than perhaps a cheap bet or a match that must be one, Save The Last Dance handled the death of a parent, teen pregnancy, racism and shootings.

The lingo - back then we thought nothing of hollerin "Slammin outfit" to a bud. Oh 00s how we miss you.
