Classic Retro Dads - Where are They Now?
As you maaaay or may not (perhaps!) or spotted, Father's Day 2017 edition is fast approaching and things here at Truffle Towers are starting to get pretty dad-tastic!
With loads of us franticly searching the shops and the cyberweb for the newest, coolest and most perfectest Father's Day Gifts in all the land to really spoil our old man this year, it's safe to say we've had the dad word spinning in our brains. Inspired by all the dad talk and goings on, we thought we would take some time to look back at some of our favourite dads (we've said dad to much already huh) from the big and small screens, see what they've been up to and perhaps find out where they are now.
Let's jump in!
Henry Jones Sr. (Sean Connery) - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Professor of medieval literature, expert on Grail lore, the father of archaeologist Indiana Jones, we're pretty sure most people will know and love Jones Sr. Somewhat of a .....difficult so and so, it's hard to imagine anyone other than professional Scotsman Sean Connery donning his trusty hat and snatching his faithful umbrella. Now, we're not saying him and Indie had the best father and son relationship to start with, but it's safe to say their adventures together sure bring them closer and all with a touch of whit and good old fashioned competition.
So, what's he be up to? Turns out.... A LOT! Starring in such films as (deep breath); The Hunt for Red October, Just Cause, The Rock, Entrapment, and Finding Forrester. Not bed eh! It's safe to say Sean has had a very fruitful career and is certainly more than a household name. Retired from the big screen, he is currently living in Kranidi, Greece where he can spend time with family and friends including fellow movie star Michael Caine.

George McFly (Crispin Glover) - Back to the Future
Oh George! Cautious, nerdy, insecure and a total dude with it! Played by Crispin Glover who tooootally nailed the role as the nerdy sci-fi loving guy who is used to being pushed around. Cripsin has gone on to feature a whole host of films from Wild at Heart, Charlie's Angels, Beowulf, Alice in Wonderland, to hit show American Gods. Not only starring, he has also produced films through his company including 'What Is It?' and 'It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine.' Did we mention he also released an album? Oh yeah - check out this album called The Big Problem ≠The Solution. The Solution = Let It Be. Not enough? He has also written between 15 and 20 books which are classic titles, rearranged and with passages removed to create new stories.
Currently living in Silverlake, California, Crispin continues to pour his time into his creative outlets including music and film production. Busy boy!

Boxed Star Wars I Am Your Father Darth Vader Mug
He came to him one night (from the planet Vulcan??) offering words of... advice. With this nifty mug, he'll be sure to never forget that night.
Noah Levenstein/Jim's Dad (Eugene Levy) - American Pie
It's Jim's dad! Always there to offer friendly advice... even when it wasn't asked for. Full of work experience and never afraid to get involved, Jim's dad has an undying love for Jim which is put to the test a number of times but never wavers. A real solid character who will always do his best for Jim. Solid dad material! But where is he now?
Turns out Jim's dad has gone pretty damn far. 60+ films? Yep! Levy has been nominated for and won countless awards for his films including a New York Film Critics Circle Award and a Grammy Award. Not to shabby!
So what's he been up so since American Pie? Turns out a lot. You might have seen him in... Best in Show, Serendipity, Bringing Down the House, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, Night at the Museum 2, and heard him in Finding Dory as Charlie. Levy is a Member of the Order of Canada and a recipient of The Governor General's Performing Arts Award - the foremost honour presented for excellence in the performing arts.
Still working hard, you'll certainly be seeing more from Jim's... sorry Eugene be it on TV or the big screen.

Hal (Bryan Cranston) - Malcolm in the Middle
Hal.... you total legend! Nothing better than a comedy dad right? We'll if ‘lord of the dads’ was an official title (which it totally should be!), then Hal would be getting our vote for the position.Father to father to Francis, Reese, Malcolm, Dewey, and Jamie, Hal is put to the ultimate test as a dad almost daily with any number of odd goings on. Like a lot of households, he pretty much becomes one of the kids with his much more relaxed approach to life then wife Lois. Proper fun!
Bryan is by no means a one trick pony though.... far from it! He has transformed himself multiple times over the years going from a goof to a disciplined and protecting figure and given award worthy performances (4x Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series & Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series twice) in block buster films and binge-worthy TV shows.
So, what's he been up to since Malcolm in the Middle left our screen back in 2006? Voicing characters in both Family Guy and American Dad!, Bryan became the face of TV sensation Breaking Bad. We're not even sure TV sensation even covers what Breaking Bad became. Maybe phenomenon? Masterpiece? Whatever you wish, it was huge and he was truly outstanding throughout. Since this performance as Walter White, Bryan has starred in cinema hit Godzilla, Drive, Argo, The Infiltrator, Trumbo, and Wakefield to name a few. You won't be struggling to see Bryan in more screen gold that's for sure.

Steve Stevens (Tom Virtue) - Even Stevens
Everyone loves a quirky Dad right? They think they're super serious but really, nothing silly they do will ever be a total surprise. Not imagine that Dad's also a lawyer... we present "Stiffie" Stevens. Running for just a few years from 2000 to 2003 (we know! Total classic gone so soon), Even Stevens remains firmly lodged in our memories as having a super cool intro, weird plot lines and one of the best TV Dads going.
So where has Tom been and where is he now? Well... turns out he's done some cool stuff! Al Bundy (Ed O'Neill) - Married with Children
Now it's hard.... nay impossible to talk about classic on screen dads without mentioning the mighty Al Bundy. Husband of Peggy Bundy, father of Kelly and Bud Bundy, Al was your classic grumpy dad. Sure he was mean at times, didn't always get what he wanted and loved to make fun of people but hey, somehow we forgave him because it was just so damn funny!
So, who was behind Al? Ed O'Neill landed the role back in 1987 and he never looked back. Playing the role for ten years until 1997, Ed later went on to perform in The Bone Collector with Denzel Washington, and a number of TV roles including Big Apple, Dragnet, 8 Simple Rules, The West Wing, and famously Modern Family. Modern Family has grown to become a jewel in ABC's crown and is still going strong from its launch back in 2009. If you've never seen it.... seriously you need it in your life.

Now this is a classic TV dad! As one of the twelve original Neighbours characters (pretty cool tittle to have right!), where he made his small screen debut on the very first episode of the show ever back in 1985. Father of Paul, Scott, Lucy and Glen, and the husband of Anne Robinson and later Beverly Robinson, it's safe to say he had a lot on his plate. Never afraid to give an honest answer, Jim loved cars and always tried to put his family first.
Appearing in over 1000 episodes before being dramatically killed off in 1993, Jim was a loud and very memorable character who became a real anchor for the show and the stories within. So, what's he been up to since he left Ramsay street and where is he now?
Well.... chances are you've also probably seen him in something good in recent years too! Working on some hit shows including; The O.C, Lost, 24, NCIS, The West Wing, The X-Files, The Killing, and Homeland, he has also hit the big screen with roles in; The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Star Trek: Nemesis, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, aaaand Entourage. Phew!
