The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown – 385

Taking all the different ingredients needed, we're ready to mix everything together to bake up one tasty weekend! A few of these, a little of that, soon we'll be kicking back and enjoying something comforting like a classic movie from back in the day!

Two rivals in the bookshop business fall in love over the internet, unaware they know and dislike each other in the real world. Time-travelling teenager Marty McFly is transported back to the days of the Wild West, where he strives to save his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown from death at the hands of a villainous gunslinger. The final instalment in the sci-fi comedy trilogy, starring Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Mary Steenburgen and Thomas F Wilson.

The hapless fool is employed as a security guard for a British art gallery and is sent to Los Angeles to bring back a famous painting. James Bond investigates the mysterious death of a British agent in East Berlin, a mission that leads him to a glamorous, international jewel thief. He discovers one of her criminal cohorts, an Indian gangster, is in league with a crazed Soviet general who plans to heat up the Cold War by detonating a nuclear bomb in an American Air Force Base. Spy adventure, with Roger Moore, Maud Adams, Steven Berkoff and Louis Jourdan.

Anti-social ogre Shrek resolves to stop an evil ruler from banishing fairy-tale characters to his swampland home. An assortment of daredevil motorists torments America's law enforcement officers while taking part in an illegal coast-to-coast race organised by an Arab sheik who is putting up the million-dollar prize money. James Bond travels to the Caribbean to investigate when a fellow agent is murdered by a trio of mysterious blind assassins. Uncovering evidence of a powerful nuclear-powered weapon being used in Jamaica, Bond joins forces with a CIA operative, a local boat captain and a mysterious beachcomber as he battles a criminal genius with a plan to destroy the US space program. The first in the long-running spy thriller series based on Ian Fleming's novels, starring Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, Jack Lord, Joseph Wiseman, John Kitzmiller and Bernard Lee.

Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) Sony Movies 9:00pm-11:30pm

New York cop John McClane returns to duty following an explosion at a department store in the city. The perpetrator contacts the police and tells them that unless McClane and an unfortunate bystander who was in the wrong place at the wrong time carry out a series of instructions to the letter, more bombs will be detonated. Action thriller sequel, starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L Jackson and Jeremy Irons.

The Wedding Singer (1998) 5STAR 9:00pm-11:05pm

A failed rock star carves out a career as a popular wedding singer, but his hopes for a bright future are dashed when his fiancee jilts him at the altar and he tries to shut himself off from the outside world. At one of his functions, a waitress catches his eye - but unfortunately for him, she is already engaged to someone else. Romantic comedy set in the 1980s, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) Sony Movies Classic 11:20pm-1:10am

A velvet-clad, sex-crazed secret agent from the 1960s agrees to be put into a state of suspended animation after his arch-enemy escapes justice. Thirty years later he is defrosted to do battle with the power-mad villain again, but the mission proves nearly as daunting for him as getting to grips with 1990s social values. Spoof spy adventure, with Mike Myers, Elizabeth Hurley, Mimi Rogers, Michael York and Robert Wagner.

An American couple decide their son needs a brother, and plan to adopt another child - but when they get to the orphanage they are greeted by a charming talking mouse named Stuart, who fits the bill perfectly. However, their jealous cat hatches a plot to get rid of the new arrival. Comedy adventure, starring Geena Davis and Hugh Laurie, with the voice of Michael J Fox.

The Truman Show (1998) Sony Movies 2:30pm-4:35pm

A man is unaware his uneventful life is really a sham, and his every move is being secretly filmed and broadcast to the world as part of a 24-hour TV soap. However, a series of unforeseen events leads him to question the nature of his existence. A boy has to fend for himself when he is accidentally left behind after his family jets off to Paris for Christmas. The youngster initially enjoys his freedom, but is soon forced to resort to ingenious booby traps to defend the family home from two dim-witted burglars. Comedy, starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, Catherine O'Hara and John Candy.

Cobra (1986) ITV4 10:15pm-12:00am

A maverick Los Angeles police officer is assigned to the case of a serial killer and becomes convinced the murders are not the work of just one man but an organised gang of psychopaths. His theory turns out to be true and he has to battle to protect the sole surviving witness to their reign of terror. Action thriller, with Sylvester Stallone, Brigitte Nielsen and Brian Thompson.
