TruffleShuffle Pride 2024: Meet Luke from @Lukeheywoodstyle

First off, tell us a bit about yourself and the content you create!

Hello! I'm Luke and I'm an LGBTQIA+ Content and lifestyle creator.

I'm from a small town in the Shropshire hills but moved to Manchester 3 years ago, and let me tell you it's a big difference.

Living in Manchester has made me realise I can be who I want to be without judgment compared to living somewhere rural.

I create content mainly on Instagram showcasing my personal bright and colourful style as well as touching on subjects like being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community and mental health. I do this through the power of photography and video.

What does Pride mean to you and how do you like to celebrate it?

Pride means so many things to me. One is about embracing and celebrating one's identity, rejecting shame, and making sure LGBTQIA+ individuals know their worth.

Pride involves reflecting on the history of the LGBTQIA+ movement, remembering those who have been lost to violence, discrimination, or illness, and honouring their legacy.

Pride is also about celebrating love, diversity, and the freedom to live authentically. It's a time of joy, festivity, and positive expression of identity.

I celebrate pride every day, by living my true authentic self. But every year I do a photoshoot to celebrate pride and fundraise for LGBTQIA+ charities.

What are the ways you think allies can most meaningfully show their support to LGBTQIA+ people?

There are so many ways allies can support LGBTQIA+ people.

Learn about LGBTQIA+ issues, histories, and terminologies to understand the community better.

Foster inclusive environments at home, work, and in social settings where LGBTQIA+ people feel safe and respected.

Amplify LGBTQIA+ voices and stories through social media, blogs, and other platforms.

Are there any specific ways you love to express your identity? (Fashion, makeup, music, social media etc!)

Fashion is a way of expressing myself. I'm a colourful and bright loving person. So my style embodies that. I then showcase this on my Instagram to allow people to see that it's okay to be who you want to be.

Who are your favourite LGBTQIA+ public figures? (Celebrities / Influencers / Musicians / Authors / Artists etc.)

There are so many amazing celebrities doing amazing things for LGBTQIA+ people. Kim Petras is a big favourite of mine being the youngest person to transition at just 14 is so brave and just so inspiring. She's also hella talented.

Honourable mentions: Janelle Monae, Laverne Cox, Elliot Page, Gaga of course.

Are there any inspiring words you would like to say to other LGBTQIA+ individuals out there currently celebrating Pride?

Your identity is valid and beautiful. Each of you brings a unique light and strength to the world. In celebrating Pride, we honour our history, our resilience, and our community. Know that you are not alone; we stand together in love and solidarity.

Last but not least, what's your favourite TruffleShuffle piece and why?

Gosh, there are just too many! I do really love The Powerpuff Girls range. I live in my sweatshirt from it. Everything that reminds me of my childhood, the nostalgia of it all!

We'd just like to say a massive thanks from all of us here to the wonderful Luke for all his amazing support and taking the time to chat with us.

Don't forget, you can celebrate Pride with your favourite characters too with our exclusive collection of Pride charity T-shirts featuring exclusive designs with the Care Bears, Moomins, and Elmer The Elephant!

Plus... 50% of the profits from this collection will be donated to the incredible charity Just Like Us, helping young people in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. What's not to love?!
