Happy Birthday Labyrinth!! Did you know....
Twenty-seven years ago today, a Jim Henson-directed fantasy movie called Labyrinth was released and... well, quickly became a bit of a box office disaster. This strange movie, about a girl (Jennifer Connelly) searching for her baby brother who's been kidnapped by a goblin king (David Bowie), was maybe a little too weird for mainstream audiences at the time.
But thankfully over the last 27 years whether it was due to the amazing creatures and sets or to Bowieâs extraordinary wig and lunchbox, it's really gathered a strong following and you only need to see the popularity of our Labyrinth T-Shirts to know this movie has definitely become a cult classic, and for good reason. Labyrinth is one of the last non-animated films of the pre-computer age. Yes, there is probably a few computer effects used in the film, but when you consider that 1986 was also the year that Pixar released Luxo Jr., marking the beginning of a computer animation revolution, Labyrinth's props-and-puppets approach to imaginative filmmaking feels like something of an to an era in film making.
To celebrate this fantastic mile-stone (yes, it makes me feel old too) I thought I'd give you 10 interesting facts surrounding Labyrinth, so enough gas-bagging as we only have 13 hours to reach Goblin City, after allâ¦.
1 - The screenplay went through 25 drafts, mostly to inject songs and more humour to ensure legendary pop star David Bowie would agree to star as antagonist Jareth the Goblin King.
Classic Coca-Cola Ads Through The Ages
It's no secret...we LOVE Coca-Cola! For as long as we can remember, Coke has always been a part of our lives, be it as a super special treat as a kid, right up to now where it's the first port of call when out for a meal, at a fast food joint (like the cool kids), cinema or actually here at Truffle Towers where we have a fridge full the the brim of the sweet stuff!
I'm sure we're not the only ones out there who have a cheeky Coke as one of the simple pleasures in life. To celebrate possibly one of the biggest and best brands ever...(much like we did with the Levi's ads post), we thought we would take a tasty trip down memory lane and have a look back at some of the classic TV Coca-Cola Adverts and see if they fire up your fizzy memory. Take a peep....

Campaign: "Things Go Better with Coke"
It was in 1963 that Coca-Cola started using the slogan "Things Go Better with Coke." Advertising agency McCann-Erickson worked with popular acts at the time to create musical jingles utilizing the slogan. This campaign also saw a huge number of jingles reworked from popular sings of the time which were also played all over the radio in advertising slots. Not surprisingly, people loved it! Not sure it would work these day on us cynical bunch though. What do you think?

Secrets from the Labyrinth, The 7 faces of Jareth
Happy Sunday everyone! Hope we're all having a good time, full of fry-ups, lie ins and perhaps the odd retro movie or three :)
If you're as big a Labyrinth fan as I am, youâll make any excuse to watch this timeless fairytale adventure. So hereâs a few little known facts to tempt you back into the magical world that is Jareths Labyrinth. The secret is that there are seven hidden faces of Jareth (David Bowie) dotted around this magical maze. If didn't know this, then read on and I shall reveal all.
Take a look at some of the random times the face of our retro hero David Bowie pops up that you might not have noticed before.
1. The first face appears as soon as Sarah enters the Labyrinth (after talking to the little blue ello worm).
2. After the tunnel cleaners scene, Hoggle and Sarah climb a ladder. Hoggle steps on a weak rung and it breaks. As they show the rung falling, Jarethâs face appears among the rocks.
3. After talking to the wiseman, Sarah and Hoggle walk through a hedge maze. Jarethâs face is on the floor, to the left of the obelisk.
4. In the scene after Sarah frees Ludo, Hoggle is seen walking off and muttering, âSheâll never get through the Labyrinth.âJarethâs face appears on the top left hand corner.
