Happy Birthday Labyrinth!! Did you know....
Twenty-seven years ago today, a Jim Henson-directed fantasy movie called Labyrinth was released and... well, quickly became a bit of a box office disaster. This strange movie, about a girl (Jennifer Connelly) searching for her baby brother who's been kidnapped by a goblin king (David Bowie), was maybe a little too weird for mainstream audiences at the time.
But thankfully over the last 27 years whether it was due to the amazing creatures and sets or to Bowieâs extraordinary wig and lunchbox, it's really gathered a strong following and you only need to see the popularity of our Labyrinth T-Shirts to know this movie has definitely become a cult classic, and for good reason. Labyrinth is one of the last non-animated films of the pre-computer age. Yes, there is probably a few computer effects used in the film, but when you consider that 1986 was also the year that Pixar released Luxo Jr., marking the beginning of a computer animation revolution, Labyrinth's props-and-puppets approach to imaginative filmmaking feels like something of an to an era in film making.
To celebrate this fantastic mile-stone (yes, it makes me feel old too) I thought I'd give you 10 interesting facts surrounding Labyrinth, so enough gas-bagging as we only have 13 hours to reach Goblin City, after allâ¦.
1 - The screenplay went through 25 drafts, mostly to inject songs and more humour to ensure legendary pop star David Bowie would agree to star as antagonist Jareth the Goblin King.
Guest Post: Rock Chick vs Geek Chic
Just before Christmas, me and fellow blogger Emily Jayne were discussing our favourite TruffleShuffle 80's t-shirts, as you do. It was interesting to see how although we had similar tastes our personal style is so different. So whereas I was more ârock chickâ, Emily was more âgeek chicâ.
Thatâs the beauty of TruffleShuffle, there is something for everyone. Whether you grew up listening to your favourite punk rock band or watching Neighbours, there is a t-shirt to bring back those good memories!
We thought weâd embrace our individual styles by joining forces for a âRock Chick vs Geek Chicâ photo-shoot, picking a TruffleShuffle tee to take you from day to night. Choosing a t-shirt from TruffleShuffle is always hard because there is SO much choice but in the end I chose a David Bowie t-shirt and Emily a She-Ra Tee. Very fitting for our themes!
For my day look I wore my Bowie tee with some leather look trousers, cowboy boot heels, a camouflaged army jacket and my wolf Spirithood (it kept my head nice and warm)!
Our favourite Photographic t-shirts....say Cheese!
They say a picture says a thousand words - here at TruffleShuffle, we like to think a photograph says a thousand cool words!
We have a bustling collection of Photographic t-shirts, so thought we would share our top 'pics' with you!
Exclusive to TruffleShuffle - our range of Thunderbirds t-shirts includes a Parker t-shirt - capturing cockney chaffer Aloysius "Nosey" Parker to a tee!
With David Bowie making a (very welcome) comeback - it seems only fair that he's included in our selection! Featuring a super cool image of the star - these Amplified t-shirts would make an awesome addition to any music t-shirt collection!

V and A Museum announce a David Bowie Exhibition!
Up until recently - we thought 'V and A' stood for Victoria and Albert - however after their recent announcement regarding David Bowie, it clearly stands for 'Very Awesome'!
The V and A Museum, known for it's dedication to art and design are hosting a David Bowie exhibition featuring over 300 items from the David Bowie Archive, from costumes to handwritten lyrics - to create the first international retrospective of the musician's incredible career.
The exhibition's co-creator, Victoria Broackes recently told Vogue Magazine why she's so excited about the event. "Bowie is a pioneer not just in music, but also of rock theatre, videos, internet and digital downloads. He's always personally and actively involved in everything that he creates and he is continuously cited as an influence by artists, designers and performers. This influence on music, fashion, visual and virtual culture, which seems if anything to be growing, links him directly to almost every subject area the V&A covers."
It's only fair of us to put together a mini tribute - showcasing some of our own David Bowie clothing, who knows - they could become collectors items one day!
If you're a fan of Labyrinth, we have an amazing selection of Labyrinth t-shirts - perfect for all you avid fans out there!
